The Governing Body at Sandside Lodge School

Sandside Lodge School has a strong Governing Body that takes a strategic role, acts as a critical friend to the school and is accountable for its decisions. It sets aims and objectives and agrees, monitors and reviews policies, targets and priorities. 

It provides challenge and support under the Chair of Governors, Sue Sanderson. 

The Clerk to the Governing Body is Ania Krepa.

All Governors have an area that they are responsible for supporting within the school and have a link member of staff they liaise with.

General Terms

  • To liaise and consult with other committees where necessary.
  • To contribute to the School Development Plan.
  • To consider safeguarding and equalities implications when undertaking all Governing Body functions.

Membership

Membership of the Governing Body was agreed on 14th January 2016 to total 11 governors including the Headteacher and Chairman/Vice chair of Governors.

This is comprised of:

  • 4 parent governors (2 vacancies at present)
  • 1 LA governor
  • 1 staff governor
  • 1 Headteacher
  • 4 co-opted governors

Non-voting participants may be invited to meetings by the Governing Body as and when required. The Deputy Headteacher may attend as an observer as may other staff inline with Continued Professional Development opportunities with the prior permission of the Governing Body.

Membership

The membership of the committee is at least five governors, including the Headteacher and Chair / Vice Chair of Governors. The Deputy Headteacher  attends as an observer. Non-voting participants may be invited to meetings by the Committee as and when required.

Quorum

The quorum is least three members of whom the Headteacher must be one.

Terms of reference

  • To provide guidance and assistance to the Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team and the Governing Body in all matters relating to curriculum and staffing.
  • To ensure that an appropriate curriculum (including the National Curriculum) is taught and its assessment procedures are carried out in line with the legal framework.
  • To review the school’s policies and School Development Plan proprieties and make amendments where necessary.

The membership of the committee is least five governors, including the Headteacher and Chair / Vice Chair of Governors. The school bursar may also attend these meetings. The Deputy Headteacher attends as an observer.

The quorum is least three members of whom the Head teacher must be one.

  • To provide guidance and assistance to the Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team and the Governing Body in all matters relating to budgeting and finance.
  • To ensure that spending plans are linked to the School Improvement and the School Development Plan.
  • To review the school’s policies and School Development Plan proprieties and make amendments where necessary.
